The BiPAP S is also called Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure – Spontaneous mode.

A BiPAP machine setting called BiPAP S (Spontaneous mode) provides two levels of pressure according to the patient’s breathing: The patient’s inspiratory positive airway pressure (IPAP) is higher when they inhale, and their expiratory positive airway pressure (EPAP) is lower when they exhale.

The machine only helps when it senses the patient’s effort to inhale it does not breathe for the patient.
